Getting the right perspective
Having difficulty with composition, perspective,
estimating the eye level of a picture or values?
Here is some of my visual aids I use when I am sketching outdoors.

Composition
: Viewfinder
Very often when I face with a scene, there's simply so much that's
appealing that it's hard to choose what to paint.
My viewfinder comes in useful, as it helps me focus on particular
elements of the street, the park, etc. and enabling me to decide what
will make the best composition, both in terms of focus and format,
and transfer them to the paper.

Perspective
: Compass
If I want to draw or paint a realistic scene, with
accurate perspective, then its crucial to get the angles of
the elements in the painting accurate. Not only the angles of how
the objects lie in relation to each other, but also of the items themselves.
A compass made with pair of arms match the angle, then, the angles
can then be transferred to my drawing without effort. |

Values
: Red Filter
Values and tones give us the depth and the three
dimensional effect of the scene. Failing to give some consideration
to a tonal plan prior to starting a painting can result in either
a washed out image or an overworked, dark and muddy picture.
I determine color values and intensities
With this red color piece of film works and looking through I simplify
the amount of tones that I see to about five or seven main values.
