OK, so I've told enough people that I can actually post it to our log now. Not that Javier (the only one who ever sees this) doesn't know already: we're moving! I can't even think of any clever way to present this -- Seattle is to be our city of destination, with an ETA of late july / early August. Javier, I am so very proud to say, has bagged a great gig at Adobe -- he'll be leading the visual design of all the digital video products. As he puts it -- "I'm so pleased that finally everyone recognizes the name of the company I work for!" As for me, it's a bit further than I had expected. I think that when Javier and I focused our mental energies on getting out of New York, we overshot the mark by a few thousand miles. But then, who knows -- maybe Javier was aiming for that after all... That said, I'm so excited about the change in our life coming up. I can't wait to have a garden that the kids can play in, to have a car to safely ferry us through the rainstorms, a CLEAN, NICE public school kindergarten. And -- I'll whisper this next one -- dare I even say it -- my own bathroom! Of course, I mean OUR own bathroom, but I truly refer to a place to wash and brush that is free of squeaky toys, infant bathtubs, squirt bottles, tiny plastic ocean creatures, wind-up boats, washcloth-puppets, bubbles and the ubiquitous but invisible-until-walked-on mysterious drops of liquid scattered about in front of the toilet, the unmistakeable hallmark of boy.
Which brings me to Galen's reaction. Unsurprisingly ambivalent is the best description. We're being gentle, but Javier and I realized too late that we do indeed have a city boy on our hands. His idea of a garden is Central Park. How does one top that? More on all this later.
