Ouch! Has it really been this long? And so packed with stuff! Javi promises me that he'll have all the photos live again soon, so we 'll have links soon to all the goings-on.
First off (and I know I'm forgetting so much already) was the vaca to Key West. Javi and Galen got to go for the entire last week of August; I joined them on Thursday, and we returned together the Sunday before Labor Day. By the time I got there, the two guys looked like savages -- tan, decadent, VERY relaxed. I quickly learned the rhythm of the days: wake pool beach pool beach eat pool beach ice cream nap playplayplay beach pool bath dinner bed. It's curiously addictive -- really.
September upped the ante on how busy we could be and still survive. For Bernstein I helped plan and attend a conference for 80 guys from around the country. Yes, it was fun, and no, you won't "get" why. It just is. But I spent a couple of weeks at the office until a.m. hours working on it, and -- as these things invariably transpire -- the "big weekend" was smack on top of a much more important event: Galen's 3rd birthday!!
We had a party on Saturday for three, of his friends and their parents (and Ajani and Rebecca too). Javier decreed that the kids would play in Galen's room, and the adults could enjoy the rest of the apartment, and he more or less enforced it! He made a tremendous spread for everyone -- kids included -- and everyone had a pretty good time. Yes, pics here would be helpful! Also in attendance was GRANDMA who made it down for the day, much to Galen's delight. It's incredible to believe that our little one is already three. I'll blather on about him soon.
During that time I somehow managed to take (and pass!) all the required exams to become a "registered representative." I'm really truly certified now w/ the NASD, and around here they call me "Roca the Broka." ;-)
busybusybusy oh! We're moving. Good news: it's in our building! I saw an ad in the sunday times that was unmistakeably for our building. It advertised a three bedroom for just a little bit more than we are paying for our two. It was indeed available, and ours for the asking. The only downside is that it is two floors lower, which means less light. On the good side, IT IS TWO ROOMS LARGER! javier says he cannot imagine how nice it will be just to "walk through our apartment" rather than "step from room to room." It's true -- by NY standards, it's massive: huge l-room, enormous d-room, two bedrooms as big as we have now, one (point five!!) bathrooms, a big, long, new kitchen, AND an office with french doors. It's so big that the kids living there now tear around on their tricycles! Mid-November seems to be the magic date. Can't wait, really! Except for the sorting and packing part -- but somehow even that will be fun. Guess it's the best way to get a change without changing too much -- psychologically, it's a very smart thing to do. Galen, for his part, firmly believes it to be an excellent idea, since he is convinced that, with the addition of space, more trains and tracks will automatically appear.
I've also got a tremendously fun part-time gig going w/ my old Meta pals. It has been great to be in touch w/ some of them again. It's funny how things change/stay the same no matter what you do to alter that formula!
More news even that all this, but you're asleep by now for sure. Hasta luego...
