Indeed, Javier is back! He arrived late on a Tuesday (7/2), worked on Wednesday, had holidays on Thursday the 4th.
On the 4th, we went down to Scott K & co.'s place at the very end of Chambers on the water, and watched the Liberty Park fireworks with everyone there. It was lovely, and Galen was absolutely thrilled with his first fireworks. On Friday morning we left for Norfolk and Toby Pond which was a tiny, quiet paradise. I hadn't realized just how much I was itching to get out of the city until the spectre of a cancelled rental car loomed. Fortunately Javi and Galen calmed me down, and cheered me enough to call around for another, which we found -- lucky!! -- in one phone call. After the day at the lake (no electricity, no motor boats, no cars) spent canoeing, swimming, hiking through the arctic bogs visiting with the family (Tony, Jo-Ellen and the kids, Mom, Lark), and a tiny one-guitar jam session, we headed for Northampton chez Peter Bloom et famille. They leave for a one-year stint in Paris soon, so we were doubly glad to spend some time with them before they depart. We had a tremendous day just wandering around N'ton, playing in the sun, buying fresh corn (first of the season) and stocking up on wine to take home. We had steak and c.o.t.c. with a tremendous wine for dinner. We stayed through lunch on Sunday -- a typical Catherine "I'll-just-serve-these-old-leftovers" that rivaled a country picnic in Aix. Mich came for lunch, and we left for NYC soon after. I will admit, however, that I was particularly attuned to "for sale" signs in front of N'ton homes... As Galen says, "someday. not now."
About Javi: his workshop in Madrid was an enormous success. The class actually gave him a standing ovation at the end of the day! He was also promptly invited to teach in Turin next year, at which, he insists, he will be accompanied by ME! :-) That aside, I am SO proud of him for making the whole thing happen, and with such accolades.
We hope to have lots of photos up soon of the above fun. The coming month is to be spent prepping for the Series 7 exam (me), possibly attending Siggraph (Javi) and acclimatizing to a new classroom (Galen!).
